Local Theatres See Resurgence in Live Performances
-
A couple weeks ago, I went to see a small theatre production in New Westminster — a local adaptation of The Importance of Being Earnest. I hadn’t been to a live show since before the pandemic, and honestly, I didn’t realize how much I missed it. The actors were incredibly talented, and the set design, though simple, had so much charm. There were only around 50 people in the audience, but that intimacy made it even more special. It made me wonder how many other local performances I’ve been missing out on. Do smaller towns still have active theatre groups putting on shows like this?

Totally agree with you. I went to a community play in Prince George a few months ago — it was a modern take on Romeo and Juliet and the entire cast was made up of local students and teachers. What made it even better was the casual vibe, like you were supporting friends and neighbours. I found out about it through bc local, actually. They’ve got a whole section for arts and theatre, and that’s how I’ve discovered a few smaller productions I wouldn’t have otherwise known about. It’s a great way to find events that feel more personal than the big city shows.

I haven’t been to a theatre play in years, but reading this makes me want to go again. There’s something unique about watching people perform live — it just hits differently than a movie. Might check what’s happening in my area soon.
